Ok I got a B&M console mega shifter in my car now and I can not get the gates to match the transmitions gear selector bracket. I can get it to go in park, r, n, overdrive, drive, and 2, but when its in 2nd it is at the last gate. I can also get it to go in to first but then when its in r its at its last gate, so no park. I tried messing with the cable and I can not get it to work like it should. I called B&M and they said that it is the tranny that is the problem. I just had the tranny rebuilt so I am kinda stuck. Anyone have this issue? --

I remember it being touchy to get it set, but mine's been fine for at least 2 years. I just put the shifter up in park as far as it will go with the cable not on the tranny. With the tranny in park, just put the cable in the lever so it either goes in the center of the front hole or is just slightly tight to the back of that hole in the arm. -- 1982 Z28, 383, D-1SC intercooled @ 16.5psi, trick flow heads, solid roller cam, 3.73's, th400,

ok i got the shifter to put the tranny in all the gears but Im not very confident with it. I have to basically bang the shifter as hard as i can in first to get it to be in first otherwise it is in 2nd. Its like the gate is 2nd and 1st, but if i hit it hard enuff back it will be in first. Its almost like the throw on the shifter isn't long enuff forward or backward. And the same for park. I dont want to get angry with it, but its starting to make me angry. --

I just know you don't wat to do it the easy way. Cause it costs all your fluid. Bet you didnt get a drain plug, right?
Get the drain plug this time. Pull the pan and look at the actual transmission. Install bracket and CORRECT lever according to the shifter manufacturer. The existing lever on the tranny will not work. I just fixed one. Old two hole lever on th350 and it seemed fine. Just didnt work right. The lever intended for the job is a little longer, changing the whole picture as to where the gates are and the shifter is. Its all a matter of geometric design. If the distance from the mounting hole to the cable hole is greater, the gates will move further.
Perhaps you don't even know what right is. I suggest that B&M has full instructions on PDF files right on their web site and even if you have a used shifter, they are very helpful. With mine I realized I simply didnt get the lever I should have when I bought it used. They sell all the right parts to fix your problems.
