code 33

Posted By: 1992Z28 On: 07-02-2008 @ 01:23:04         Reply | Edit
When I can get my car to start I get a code 33. Not sure how to correct this fault. When the car is in gear it seems to run worse than when its in park. Park it idles between 750 and 650, but it doesnt sound to good and when in gear it moves all around like the computer is constantly searching. Lots of pulsing and idle seems to be between 1000 and 500 before it dies. I can even kinda hear a little bit of what sounds like the car is off but is still running noise. Like the funny movies with cars that continue to run will you walk away then about 5 minutes later bam back fire, except not that bad and no bad fire yet. The car 92 camaro z28 tpi 350 runs like crap, when I can get it to start. Thats a whole other problem. Can anyone shed some light on a possible fix. Thanks

If you MAP sensor is bad your engine will run extremely rich. Try checking the vacuum lines. If they are ok, your MAP is probably bad.

Code 33:
High voltage (low vacuum) at mass air flow sensor (or MAP sensor)

MAF is Mass Air Flow and is on a speed density system

Map is Manifold Absolulte Pressure and is on our earlier efi systems.

His Camaro is a '92. '92s are speed density. Speed density cars use MAP sensors, whiles earlier TPIs use MAF

The plug came out of the MAP sensor. The clip was broken. Runs decent now but it has died a couple of times while I was driving it around town. Maybe timing is off a bit, not sure though. But thanks for the info.

check the spark plugs. After a long time running so rich they might be bad

I have a fuse-able link made into a 20a fuse instead and the fuse blows all the time. When the fuse blows the cooling fans stop working and I get codes, like 33 and 32. Then the car overheats. Not sure why the fuse is blowing. No codes until the fuse blows though.
