Would a bad ignition switch cause frequent intermittent starts? I have replaced the starter twice checked voltage and CCA both are good. I just installed a new B&M console shifter with a new neutral safety switch. I can only think that its the ignition switch. It happens cold or hot. No consistency to the non starts. When it doesn't start it just clicks, like its not engaging the flywheel. When it does engage it starts. -- http://home.comcast.net/~brewers96/1992Z28.html

If the starter isn't shimmed properly would it start sometimes and also give a click when it wont? -- http://home.comcast.net/~brewers96/1992Z28.html

Might be your starter solenoid. On my Z28 sometimes it will just click when I turn the key, the volts don't drop or anything. I'll hold the key and let out the clutch and press it a couple of times and it will turn over, then it likes to drag a bit. I'm going to have it rebuild soon.
Something to check.
Good Luck --

The starter is a brand new summit starter twice replaced with the same result. -- http://home.comcast.net/~brewers96/1992Z28.html
