Bad sensor? Bad gauge? Bad stat?
Could you be a little more specific on the issue? -- "If you have complete control over the damned thing, you're not going fast enough." - Carrol Smith

It may have two sending units. One for the gauge and one for the ECM. --

Yeh, that's the way it was on my Z28. The gauge stopped working, then would work intermittently, or bounce around. Found out the wire, which comes out the driver's side of the block, was frayed and exposed. I spliced and solder it, then wrapped it in tape. Good as new, but not before I bought a new sending unit. --

Actually there are 3 coolant sensors
One on each head
I forget what the drivers head controls
Pass head is fan
Front intake is coolant temp -- "If you have complete control over the damned thing, you're not going fast enough." - Carrol Smith

formulateez, it could be that your coolant level is low, i had this problem once. its because the sensor reads the coolants, then it reads air , then coolant again, then air and so on.its because theres not enough coolant to to fill up the cycle.
i know i know ...only an idiot doesnt keep the fluid levels in check, but my stupid plastic heater core lines busted... i still cant believe they made those lines plastic, stupid GM engineers.
