Gear question

Will a stock rear end, my IROC's, hold a 3.73? I mean I know I can get the correct gear that fits, but will it break easily if I get on it or take to the track much. I'm not going to be pushing that much to it. I assume the 3.73's would put more strain on the rear, especially from a stop. --

Its a later style carrier, similar to 4th gens
Any from a later 3rd gen or 4th gen will work
10 bolts are actually pretty strong, breaking them comes mostly from abuse
Hard launches from a manual or Trans brake car
Excessive dounuts and burnouts
etc
A few on TGO have made it to the 10 second range without destroying them
That being said, do whatever gear ratio you would like
Since its not your DD why not a 4.10?

I know, but when I finish I want it to be a good all around car. I want to be able to ride to the beach for the weekend in it and take it to the track occasionally. I know 4.10's aren't that far off of a 3.73, but I would imagine it would be more prone to bark second after I get a shift kit with the lower gear in it and all. I had thought about going with a 3.42. That's what's in my Z28, but decided to go ahead and get the 3.73 since I'm buying a new gear. 4.10's may be overkill for what I want. --

Its not that much difference
3.73 is a good all around gear
4.10 give a little more performance at the cost of top speed and mileage
If you want to get picky you should pick a gear that matches the cam, but again its no big deal -- "If you have complete control over the damned thing, you're not going fast enough." - Carrol Smith

Best I can say is that mine was a good story. It held up to 3 years of track time, one of those years also as my daily driver with 3.73's in it. I had probably over 500 passes on it, one year doing upper 14's, next year upper 12's, and final year doing mid-upper 11's. Then I swapped it for a s-60 so I didn't have to worry bout blowin it out mid-season doing lower 10's and it has been sittin in my garage ever since. -- 1982 Z28, 383, D-1SC intercooled @ 10psi, trick flow heads, solid roller cam, 3.73's, stall

I was playing Call of Duty 4.
I work 4pm to 12am as well. I'm usually awake anyway. By that time though I'm watching tv or something, winding down to go to bed. Just popped back in before I hit the sack last night.

I make the cloth that goes into Hondas. Do you get to see the seats?
I make the cloth that has the pattern that is etched into the material. If it is, I probably processed it. --

Seats go in a good ways down but I have seen them
You can tell which parts Honda invested money and got the good stuff and also where they cheaped out

When that fabric was first introduced back in 01 or 02 it was selling at $14 dollars a yard. I think it's around $10 bucks a yard now. Depending on the style. A lot of what we run goes to Honda in Turkey. --

I dont know who makes their stuff
I just know the interior panels fit like crap, the headliner is screwey, the trunk liners rarely fit right and the carpet... holy cheapos
Dont get me started on the dash
Leather objects and body panels are usually outstanding quality and fitment
Its a toss up I guess

We ship our stuff to Juarez, Mexico to put the foam on the back of the cloth. I guess they make the seats there, or they send them to another plant to put the seats together. Other than that I don't know. --
