twin turbo GTA or AFR/cammed GTA

Posted By: Archangel On: 02-10-2008 @ 14:59:47         Reply | Edit
Hi guys! I just got some $$$, and was giviing a thought at a twin turbo system I'm seeing at ebay. The thing is, that for about the same money I could either install set of AFR Street Eliminators 195 and a CompCams stick or the twin turbo setup (limited at 7psi for budget limitations). The thing is, what should I do? The heads/cam swap would be pretty easy and straight forward while the TT will be a PITA. Both setups would yield about the same amount of horsepower (with the 7psi limit). The TTs would have more potential for the future, though. I don't have the $$$ to make the engine hold more than 7psi for now, but there's still the potential. Please list pros and cons for the setups like reliability, chance for an engine failure, budget, performance, installation....etc. I'll appreciate it guys. Also if there's anyone out there with turbos please I would like to hear your experience.

I think the heads/cam would be a better platform to build from

You can slap the TT kit on then

Check with the Power Adder section of TGO

Well, I was thinking and the TT setup would be a PITA. Plus, I wouldn't want to loose the A/C in order to make it fit. Anyone else?

The h/c setup would probably be easier to tune, and easier to put together. The TT would probably give better gas mileage. Ebay stuff is sometimes not the best. I'd go with the h/c myself first, then TT later.

I just wish they weren't so expensive. I'm definitely getting my hands on a set soon, though (I hope)

Engine simulators go wild when I compare the street eliminators against my stock 083. I'm sure there are high 12 second passes with the heads/cam combo and good tires.

195 eliminators on a 383 with a good roller cam will hit high 11,s

I'd go with the heads cam as well. I was thinking about a starting point for my L98 as well, and that's not a bad place to start.

I'm placing the order for the AFRs this month. I will also upgrade the camshaft and step-up to 4.10 gears. Thanks for the input, guys!

My car already ran a 13.7 with the current setup and a rich 12.4:1 A/F ratio. What do you think it will run after the mods?

Just an intake went 13.7

HCI L98 should be into the high-mid 12's assuming you get traction and dont break something

I would definitely do some sort of header upgrade with the new heads
