i'm gonna do 3.42 gears in my rear end and its gonna be a dd... and what is the pros/cons in gettin a spool over a posi? and is it really worth it to get a spool over the posi in my dd?

dd shouldn't have a spool. i dont know too much, but i do know that a spool LOCKS both axles together. when you turn, the inside tire will spin at the same speed as the outside wheel, causing it to skid/slip. if you wanna drift all your corners, i'd say go for it, but if you want reasonable daily driving, go posi.

If its a DD, a spool should never even enter your mind as a thought. It is a drag strip only diff. Not to mention, if this is going in a 10 bolt rear, you would brake your axles within a week from turning.

Best comment yet, that last one. A spool doesnt belong on any modern ten bolt. If its not the axle, it'll be something else.
About the best thing for this melon is a bowl? No, the best thing is to stick with a factory locker. From what I understand, at least they wear out or break before the rest does.

Doing the same myself. Happen to have a 3.42 from a little six (2.8) fbody to swap out the 273 on the iroc z with. Ought to help a little, Still need to find the locker myself too.
So far we've blown 2 700r4's so I suppose when we go up on tranny performance, the rear will go next, right???
