Posted By: camaro91 On: 01-03-2008 @ 14:27:35         Reply | Edit
ok for my 355, i'm thinkin bout throwin some aluminum heads on it but is there that big of a difference between aluminum and cast iron? i know aluminum weighs less and disappates(sp?) heat faster. its gonna be a street/strip car. thanks

Those are the only gains from aluminum and you will pay a premium for it

If you do go ahead with the Alum heads make sure that you get top dollar gaskets. With the temps changing from the steel block to the alum heads they expand and contract at different times, cheap gaskets will start to leak faster.
I have been told just to find a good set of vortec heads from later model and have some work done to them. Can be cheaper and better performance.

i beleive for the price you'd pay for a decent set of aluminium heads, you'd be able to build/have built a reallt nice set of cast heads

i've heard swirl porting is bad for flow... and i've got my tbi heads and i've heard they're pretty terrible too. so i was jus gonna try a bone yard and look for some vette heads or somthin.

depending on your intake, depends on what your looking for. what heads are you looking for? heads for the 355 or your 305? my 305 79 caprice wagon had 60cc heads and thats a pretty small chamber. you'd gain compression that way.
