Motor Swap

Posted By: CFCAMARO25th On: 12-31-2007 @ 20:41:44         Reply | Edit
Hey, I'm thinking about buying all of the parts to a 350 motor except the block, here's the kicker. the parts are out of a 350 boat motor, now I have a block, 4"bore and was wondering beside the larger crank and the need for a different cam, would all of this work together? I have a 1992 Camaro 5spd.

Have you ever assembled an engine before?
The little parts are where the real costs lie

Crate engines are getting cheaper by the day, why not go for one of those

i'd get a reman 350 short block, some aluminum heads and intake of choice. that'd be killer

Hey guys thanks for the input..... As for the first poster, yeah I've put a couple together before, and I've built a 327 turbo with a GT25 garret ball bearing setup, all mandrel rolled piping and a custom 1/2" thick baseplate welded to a 3" pipe mated between two long tube headers.... well me and my grandfather made the setup, but I feilded most of the prints he drew up. So I have a bit of experience, but not really on the marine end of the spectrum. So as for the second poster, I'm really hands on, and grandpa owns a machine shop, but as for the parts, I'm pretty sure the only difference is the larger crank, and a continuous use cam, which wouldn't be good for my car, considering I don't want to drive everywhere at an optimal 6500 rpm's because of the marine outboard cam... not good. So I realize I have to switch to an intermittent use cam, but as for the crank would it work? And the motor has vortec heads, hypeuretic pistons, and a 3.63" stroke, so it'll make possibly 270 BHP, and thats with a quadra-jet 650 double pumper, and I'm swapping out the GM vortec intake manifold for a edelbrock performer intake manifold.

Also, I don't like aluminum anything, they warp way too easily, and for street use thats not really applicable.

aluminum heads is where the power is at. unless you have another set REALLY worked. your heads wont warp over street driving. i know ppl with over 50k miles on aluminum heads.

Again, the vortec heads will work just fine for my app. Just looking for some insight on the other parts of the motor.

Aluminum heads won't give you power, they save you weight.
