ok well im new to this forum but i have a question and im sure many more to come in the future i have a as you can see from my name its a 88 formula 5.0 TPI 139k mileage automatic im soon to be rebuilding the engine for the simple fact that its leaking coolant and i cant track it down it only leaks after i shut it off and it sets over night so im thinking possibly it could be a freeze plug and in order to get to it ima have to pull the engine so if ima pull it ima rebuilt it but i was wondering is it possible to put a set of headers and true duals on a car like this with all the O2 sensors the smog system all the bullshit that the gov. put on these cars what will have to take off in order to put headers on this car thanks in advance and sorry it so long

Edelbrock TES headers have all the appropriate A.I.R. injection and O2 sensor fittings for emissions. Running true duals can be tricky on these cars because they are so low, but is HAS been done --

welcome to the board.
over on thirdgen.org, the general concensus on smog legal shorties are the hooker 2055's. people tend to agree that the quality is better than the TES's, but theres plenty of people who are happy wiht their TES's.
true duals are possible, but theres alot more work involved in installing them, because as far as i know, theres no true dual system sold specifically for thirdgens, which means you have to fabricate the pipes up.
depending on how much power your putting out, theres no real benefit in running them except for the sound. theres also alot of people running 4" single pipe systems designed for high horsepower 3rdgens who are very happy with them. --

ok so its possible to run headers then with the smog system but easier just to run it into a single pipe and Y out like stock to the rear end and i noticed you said there are people running 4" single pipe i rekon that stock pipe size is 2 1/2 if i recall right i was wondering if i could run 3" but dint know if it would drag on things or would be enough room in the bottom side of the car because my car has the sport suspension being a formula will i notice that much of a difference by running the 3" compared to the 2 1/2" thanks a ton for responding

its easier to run shorties for smog compliance becasue the catalytic converter does not need to be moved. as far as i know, there is no y pipe made for long tube headers in a smog legal package for 3rd gens, becasue the cat on thirdgens is so far forward that theres no room to pipe into it after the collector. you might be able to fab one up, but depending on your horsepower goals, it moght not be worth it.
stock size depends on engine, but for a 305, you probably wont want to go over 3" untill your putting out 300+hp.
you will notice a small improvement between 2.5 to 3, that improvment gets more and more noticable as you modify the engine.
dont worry about bottoming out the exhaust with a ws6 suspension, as long as its installed right, you wont have any problems. --

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=HOK%2D2055HKR&N=700+4294908216+4294925005+4294908198+4294918680+400390+115&autoview=sku
might be able to find a better deal somewhere else, but summit usually has rock bottom prices. just go there and look for headers for your car, they have pictures, descriptions, and prices available. --
