Well I plan on this fall/ winter on building 355/357 one or the other just havent decided on which yet.

What is a good set of heads and a good cam to use on the tpi motor.

Just a heads up I want to run low 13's all motor and them somewhere in the 12's on a 150 shot.

use vortec or bowtie heads and a 268 extreme energy comp cam

Posted By: 91_gta On: 07-24-2007 @ 23:00:10     Reply | Top | Edit
I really dont want to use vortec heads b/c you have to run such a small cam (max lift .480) and you have to buy diff intake

Where can I find these bowtie heads and what do the run?

How does the 268 cam sound?

why build such a small motor? stroke the 355 your building. i havent done the math, i'm building a 383 with .030 pistons, so that comes out somewhere over 383

go to any chevy dealer and order the bowties from the gm performance book their not that expensive and have 184cc intake runners the vortec only have 170cc plus u can port the bowties to about 200cc if u want and the 268 sounds pretty damn good or try this cam its a soild roller it sounds sick 12-700-8 its 224 224 duration so u dont need a stall with 525 525 valve lift at 0.50 its on compcams.com just put the part number in the search box

Well I will be putting a small stall in , But I will prob just stick with a roller cam not a solid.

Is there a online site that I can look at these bowtie heads?

Jeremy (from now on jerebear) lol

i thnk that a 383 is a stroked and bored 350.

just a stroked 350 is a 377,

just a bored 350 is a 355.

not positive but pretty darn sure. Sorry if i burst your more cubes bubble! lol

lol. i know for a fact that a .080" 350 stroked is a 406cid bennyboy. so thats what got me thinking that a stroked 355 is more. i'll do the math, but i need to know the stock stroke of a 350. isnt it 5.7"?

Stock 350 has 4.000" bore and 3.48" stroke. I've seen cranks with stokes of 3.75", 3.875", 4.000", and 4.25" that displace 383, 396, 408, and 434 in a 30 over 350 block. An 80 over 350 block would need the 3.875" stroke crank to be a 406.

Stock rod is 5.7"

A 383 is a .030 350 with a 400 crank

Personally I wouldnt bother boring it over unless the cyl walls are scored/ovaled

i already bought the kit. it came with .030 pistons. i bought the block for $25 and had it cleaned up and what not for just a re-ring and the pitting never came out of the cyl. so i said fuck it and bought a stroker kit. i'll check the stroke length when i get home from work in the AM. block has all new freeze plugs, cam bearings and whatnot. just needs to be bored and possibly cleananced.
