hi everybody,
Im yet another 15 year old who wants to have a sick car by the time i get my drivers licence. My friends dad bought him a 90 rally sport with a 305 that runs like crud and has a knock in the tranny. after looking at that car i knew i wanted one. i just want to now if you guys and girls have any tips on building a decent camaro to smoke all the rice burners.

Start saving for a 383, the 3rd gen is probably gonna be the cheapest part haha. --

Upgrade order:
Safety:
Make sure the factory brakes are working 100% or get a bigger brake set
Inspect the frame and suspension to make sure its not going to come apart when your tear-assing around town
Keep good tires on it
Performance:
Make the engine breath better
Intake mods are usually cheapest and add the least
Exhaust will show more benefits but can become quite pricey
Better flowing heads/head work
Cam & ECM tune - You HAVE to tune the ECM for most of the larger upgrades or it will run like poo
Chassis:
SFC's you need this even if you dont do anything else

i was going to adapt it to a carb. thats another question, as my friend is trying to do the same thing to his camaro, ditch all the computer crap. does the ecu control other stuff like antilock and lights, auto trans, etc?

1) The "computer crap" is the whole point of the car being reliable. Research common problems and get the car running like it should before you say EFI is bad
2) 3rd gens dont have and never will have ABS
3) Lights are a separate harness
4) Auto trans, gagues, and alot of other useful things are controlled by the computer.
While you may bolt on a carb intake and make it run better than it did... You will have to add a bunch more stuff before you can be completely computer free -- "If you have complete control over the damned thing, you're not going fast enough." - Carrol Smith

He wants to drop a regular crate 350 in there. I kinda figured about the gauge stuff and his is a manual tranny, but what else is controlled by the the ecu?

A crate engine is a long block unless you get a specific one
I can get a crate 383 and slap my TPI unit ontop
Nothing new
A better question about the ECM is what DOESNT it control
