Turbo V6

Alright i am planning on rebuilding my 3.1L and custom fitting a twin turbo setup on the engine. Custom headers and custom exhaust. Already check clearance issues and it would barely fit. But that isn't what my issue is. I need to find a 5 speed trans to slap on it. I have the 700r4 in there right now so if anything matches the bolt pattern that would be great. I got a 3.73 posi rear end being put into it. 2 inch sway bars. Twin turbos coming from a 3000GT Vr4 Pacesetter headers being reworked for turbo. Borla dual exhaust 2.5 inch. Aluminum heads and various internal parts. Looking at putting it to a 10 second bird in the future -- 91 Firebird 3.1L

There are a few turbo v6's on TGO and one TT v6 I think
Fastest one was 11.something if i remember right
Your not gonna find a cheap 5 speed that will handle a 9 second car

I never said cheap Trans. Just asked if there was a 5 speed trans similar to the 700R4 that would bolt up to the 3.1L And i am looking at 13sec already with the new setup. After i get the twin turbo setup working properly i will upgrade with new turbos. I have seen a 10.78sec 3.1L I am not expecting to get it to 10 range in a mere summer. I know it will take some fine tuning to get there but one day i do want a 10 sec 3.1L My friends 3000Gt Vr4 is running mid 9's and i am getting his old turbos after i make sure the thing will handle high amounts of boost. So 10's isn't too hard to accomplish IF you know what your doing AND you have the money to do it all. Nos included. So yet again i ask does anyone know what trans is similar to the 700r4 but 5 speed? Or is there no hope for that and i will have to rebuild the 700r4 with stronger parts to hold a 9 sec. -- 91 Firebird 3.1L-Turning into Twin Turbo

what do you mean similar? the T-5 is similar but i don't think that it/ll bolt up to the 3.1, but if you have a 700r-4 that does then the T-5 will.
how much boost are you planning on running? intercooler? stock pistons?
why TT and not single? cheaper and sometimes better.
and i'm pretty sure that the fastest 3000gt VR-4 is only in the 10's or 11's. not trying to start sh!t but thats what i've seen everywhere --

Im still not seein your logic
The 3000GT TT has the top end motor with turbos and is specifically designed for performance
The 3.1 and any 60degree v6 is designed for economy and longevity
Next you have a really poor choice of chassis for extremely fast times, its really havy and really flimsy
These can be remedied but then you lose streetability
Back to your trans question
The stock 5 speed will do little more than implode
Try a richmond 4 or 5 speed, maybe adapt an old muncie to fit
If those dont fit, try this company or go with any company that makes a F1 transaxle, they can upgrade something for you

The 3000Gts are as heavy as the firebirds. And with a bit of modification the firebird can run the same times. I really could care less about drivability on the streets. Cuz it will be more of a race car at the end of this. thus guzzling fuel and just to damn nice to drive around very often. But back to the trans thank you guys for the info MUCH appreciated. I am in process of completely rebuilding the engine AND the body. Strengthening the body with some titanium alloy tubing. Yes it cost ALOT. Bought tubing and had it bent for me already. Just need to get rid of the two dents i have and the minor patch of rust that has started. Ripping out the rear seats and carpeting. Placing racing seats in front. Other than that it will have a painted carbon fiber hood inplace of the stock hood. Also to answer one question No not stock pistons. having new ones made. How exactly do you figure your going to weld the titanuim tubing?
A Home Depot welder wont cut it there
Since its a race car why not go with any of the already proven V8's and a custom combo -- "If you have complete control over the damned thing, you're not going fast enough." - Carrol Smith

Got a uncle that works in a welding factory 6 blocks away from me and i am going there to have it welded and i want to be alittle different and see if i can actually do it. Just kinda a "Hey lets see if we could do it" decision that slowly grew into "Hey i am actually doing it" thing. I think that if i can make this v6 do anything in the 10s range i will be happy. Also one thing. Do any of you think it would be a wise decision to pick up a showroom quality 83 TA with the 305 and t-tops. White with blue interior. 77k Miles on it. and when i say showroom quality, i mean NO dings scratches or blemishes in the paint or interior. Is the 83 TA you're looking at a 305 CFI (Crossfire injection)? If so, I would say not to buy it unless you can get it very cheap and do not plan on driving it much / at all. -- 1997 Mystic Teal Trans Am, M6, Leather, Hardtop.
