Well, according to Richmond Gear, new gears can build up some heat that can lead to gear failure if not broken in properly. They recommend for street vehicles that you drive the car at normal street speeds for 10 miles and then park it and let it cool for 30 minutes. They said to repeat this for 2 or 3 times and it should be broken in enough for normal use.
Go to www.richmondgear.com and look on the left side of their webpage. There is a link to installation instructions there that refer to breaking in the ring and pinion. Hope this helps.
