The deal is you bought a $400 car and are expecting it to be show car. Get real dude, you bought a beater that the seller didn't want anymore. Are you new? -- 1990 IROC 1LE, 350 TPI, 700R4, 17k Miles

damn!t, i'm going to have to agree with All2kul.
well it is a $400 dolor car, how many miles were on it? I bought mine for $2600 and it is SUPER clean. and that was about five years ago.
there are a billion (hundred) things that could cause a check engine light to come on. i'm gonna guess you are sorta new with cars and suggest that you go to autozone or something and they will read your computer for FREE. then you can find out what the cause is and hopefully fix it. p.s. somethings do not require fixing if you dont want too, like the EGR valve, it regularly makes the SES light come on but doesnt adversly affect your engine. --

Yea, ill agree with the other two. Its a third gen F body. and although we all might love them, they all have issues. a check engine light is the least of your worries in one of these badboys --

the TPI unit and conversion isnt cheap or easy, sorry bud.
headers help A LOT but you have to remove a lot of stuff just to get to them adn then it is sorta a pain to swap them too. --

okay, that is sorta different, but still not easy.
The TPI unti will give you some gains but TPI needs a very selective cam profile to work at its best. your 305 has a differnet cam then you buddies 305. and very different heads.
you will see a gain but do not expect your car to be as fast as a factory 305 TPI.
and headers are a great addition to your car.
i however had to remove a lot of sh!t to get them on. all smog contraptions and the ac and fittings and piping.
and then the passengerside still barley fit in there.
and then you'll have to get a y pipe or lots of custom work done.
but it cut about a full second off my 1/4 time too!! --
