also posted in anything goes:

well, in every mans life there are speed bumps. some larger than others. as most of you know, i am completely rebuilding my camaro from the ground up(ish).

the brown/gold paint has got to go. i've got 2/3 of the engine bay primed and ready to go, i just need to move the master/brake booster combo and some of the wirin in that area. i also have the interior stripped out of it and i've gotten a good start on the floor pans.

basically what i'm getting at is color. keep in mind it'll be a daily driver, so i'm not flaming it or putting any rediculous paint on it. a simple 2 stage paint will suffice, but i dont know what color to choose.

initially i wanted to go black. no mettalic flakes or anything. then maybe running silver ground effects.

what are some thoughts?

another question. what type of hood should i get? i want to run a cowl hood, but all of the used glass hoods around me are lift off with cracked corners. i'll buy new, but do i want lift off or bolt on? what size?

HELP!

i gotta say from experience, enjoy the prep work for paint, cause it sucks! and as far as color goes, third gens look great with different color ground effects. i was goin to paint mine black with the silver gfx but i opted for the white on black instead. choose wisely though, you dont want something that youll grow tired of. and as far as the hood goes, get a bolt on. lift off are super light and super flimsy, not to mention you need help getting them off everytime u wanna get under the hood. harwood bolt on hoods are fantastic! 2 or 3 inches will look great on ur z28! happy shopping

go with something like a viper blue for color. blue camaros cant be beat in the looks dept. except for a good crimson. and black is overplayed and too maitainence involved. just looking at a black car will make it dirty.

for the hood, it depends on how your securing it. the lift off ones usually require hood pins, but the bolt on ones are a little more expensive. a tip if your going fiberglass bolt on: you might not be able to close the hood once its up with properly working struts, try finding a dead pair just in case.

i personally feel anything over a 2-3" cowl looks like a joke. its also gonna attract more attention from the anal massachusetts police officers we both know and love. and for the love of god, dont get a iroc daytona hood, theyre everywhere and they look overly foolish.

if you havent, check oust ascd, they have a very nice selection of cowl hoods for camaros.

get a bolt on fiberglass hood; i love my hood; its a 2.25" fiberglass hood made by Glasstek, its much better looking than teh Harwood ones IMO

have fun prepping for paint, i've put in over a hundred hours on my car, and its a hell of a lot of work, easy, but tedius and time consuming;

take ur time, enjoy the porcess tho

i went to school for it. i must say, i am enjoying the prep work more than i am building the motor.

usful idiot... i know all about them coppers... i'll carry around donuts... lol ...

i thought of running a nice deep blue with maybe a set of white or silver SS style stripes... thoughts?

i wanted to go 4" on the hood... will that really look that bad?

yea. 4" is a lil gaudy. the ss stripes would look real nice. but how bout this... a nice deep blue, with Yenko stripes? just a thought

depends on how wide the stripes are. a deep blue would look sick as shit.

and trust us on this, 4" is going to look funnier than a monkey f*cking a football. just break out a ruler and measure 4" up from the stock hood line, in theory it doesnt sound that tall, but one you see how tall 4" actually is against the height of the windshield, youll see what were talking about.

even better would be mocking up a 4" cowl induction scoop out of cardboard. then chop it or raise it to your liking. just remember to take it off before you drive it, or youll look like a ricer

dont go more than 2 or 3 inches unless ur packing a real serious tall motor on a drag car
