Edelbrock tes header leak?

Posted By: 91_gta On: 01-04-2008 @ 22:03:14         Reply | Edit
If you have these headers, Do yours leak at all or blow gaskets out?? Cause i have went through 2 gaskets now (sets)

And now im gonna fix once and for all. What are some tip to doing that?

Is there a certain type of gasket that is better?
Paper,copper.....???

What about locking header bolts? I have thought alot about them.

It blows the gasket on the passenger side. And the bolt come loose. so any info is great.

Just get the standard gasket from advance

Then get the high temp sealant (red)

Give both sides of the gasket a light cloating of sealant before you install

Now go get some of the better locking header bolts

Blowing out gaskets means either something is warped or your header bolts are backing out and your not retightening them for the heat cycles

im opretty sure that copper gaskets are for really high performance engines. i think that you'd might be over building.

but im not a genius

I have the dead soft aluminum ones from Percy's High Performance. I got them from Jeg's. They conform to any irregularity and seal very well. I also have Breslin split-lock bolts and I haven't had any problem. With a new gasket, as mentioned earlier, you have to tighten the bolts, run the engine and retighten. You need to do this for several heat cycles as the gasket takes a set (it compresses slightly with each heat cycle and the bolts will loosen slightly). After a number of cycles, you will notice they no longer need tightening and you can stop the retightening sequence and lock the bolts in place. The Breslin's have a small center bolt that you tighten to expand the end of the bolt in the head so they lock in place. You must remember to loosen the center lock bolt before you try to loosen or tighten them or you will damage the threads. You can also get the Stage 8 locking bolts, but they are a bit harder to use, but also quite effective. Good luck and keep checking those header bolts!

Locks. you want to make sure you don't over tighten your bolts or you will never get them out. Besides, both metals flex at different Rates.

The way to keep them sealed is... Get locks or buy bolts that are the same metal as the head. I dont think this can happen. So Locks for your Headers.
