I still have my first car, a '78 Firebird formula undergoing a resto. It originally came with a 305 small block chevy, which I replaced with a 350, but I am looking to upgrade to a 383 stroker and was wondering about hood clearance. I pulled the drivetrain a few years ago, and was wondering about hood clearance with Edelbrock intakes and Holley carbs. I would like to put an RPM Air-Gap intake on, but am wondering if anyone has run this setup w/ an aftermarket air-cleaner and been able to shut the hood. I would like to keep the originality of the body lines, and not cut into the hood. I did have a Performer intake on and that cleared, but from what I remember the fit was tight. Any help appreciated. Suggestions w/ air cleaners with the tight fit. I used to run an Edelbrock tear drop cleaner that did fit. Thanks in advance.

I'd recommend the Torquer II intake for performance
and clearance.
I had one on my 80 Z28, 355 CID motor and loved
the off idle response and top end power.
If I'm not mistaken, David Vizard did back to back
testing with a bunch of single/dual plane manifolds
on SB's and the Torquer II made the most TQ and HP across the curve on their test engine. -- Welcome to the Internet, where everyone's a mechanic and has a 10 second car.

Wow, not sure with a SBC. I know with a pontiac motor, their isn't too much if you are going to use an Edlebrock intake. -- '80 Firebird Formula w/455 Pontiac 3-spd a/t. 12.20 at 109, 11mpg!

oh man, sorry to be so slow--hope this still catches you--I just don't come around much these days.
I was running a 350 with a performer rpm airgap and an edelbrock air cleaner before i swapped to an ls2...the clearance was d*mn close, but it can be made to work. I ran a demon, but a holley should be close enough in height to work!
here's a shot of my setup--hope this helps!
