Brake Warning Light-78 TA

Posted By: rrj78ta On: 09-11-2008 @ 08:06:42         Reply | Edit
At a stop, my brake pedal went to the floor and the brake light went on in my '78 TA. Fluid was low in back half of the master cylinder and the cylinder was a little weepy around the edges. There appeared to be water in the fluid and it was dark. The rear cylinders were also leaking.

I replaced the master cylinder and rear cylinders and bled all four wheels until the fluid was clear. The brakes feel back to normal again, but the warning light will not go away. I've never had this happen before on my other muscle cars but they were all early 70's. Is there a way to "reset" this light? The service manual doesn't mention it.

Thanks!

there may be an issue with the parking brake switch? is there a level sensor on the master? I dont recall there being one on my 79. If there is no sensor, then the brake light is not on due to loss of fluid.

i have a 78 also. i had the same problem when i bleed my system after i blew my master cylinder. whenever the brake pedal hits the floor the light goes on on the dash(it is just what the car does).

the only way I got the light off was I bleed my brakes one more time so I had my pedal hit the floor and then the light went off in my car.

I hope this helps, but I dont know any other way to do it.
