getting a 3.4L 1994 bird

Hey everyone! I'm new here; first post!
I'm planning on purchasing a 1994-1995 Firebird in the next couple of months. Since I'm from israel, they don't sell these cars here, all of them have been privatly imported. So mostly what we have here (for sale) is 5.7L V8s (1995s), and one (the only one that I've seen available) 3.4L 1994. All of which are automatic.
5.7L is a little too big for my pocket, fuel-wise, I was thinking of going for the 3.4L. Unless you can (and please do try) convince me otherwise seriously. Two things bug me though, the fact that its an auto, and second, its only like what? 160hp? for that massive and heavy car?
So basically a stock 4 banger (say.. a Civic) could kill it without any sweat?
I would like to know everything about the 1994-5 firebirds, if thats possible. Mileage, maintainence, parts etc.
And of course, if anyone here knows about any websites that sell mods (ie, forged pistons, rods, turbos, CAIs, fuel rails and on and on), which can ship these parts overseas (again, I'm from Israel).
Oh, and by the way, is it possible to swap the tranny to manual? approx how much will it cost?
Thank you so much! [ Edited on 10/08/2006 @ 18:49:24 ]

well...i had a 94' 3.4L and it was junk...no power and crap for mileage. ive got an 02' with the 3.8l and a 5speed and i love it.
ive never been neaten by any honda, and the only rice thats got me was a twin turbo mazda with a rollcage and ll the goodies.
also the 4th gens only weigh about 3300 lbs...mine weighs 3500lbs with me in it.
right now you can get a nice 4th gen 96' and newer for the v6, 98' and newer for the ls1...for around $5000
the lt1 is junk too, if you want an Fbody, fet an LS1 or a 3800 v6.
