Removing Shifter Knob on a 1977 Formula

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to remove the shifter knob off of a 1977 Formula so I can remove my shifter plate and console. I am in quite a bind. Thanks.

the button itself simply pulls off, then there is a tiny snap ring that holds the rest of the knob on the shifter. then the 4 allen screws remove the plate and the rest should be a piece of cake. Hope that helps, mike
