I'm new to the forum and apologize in advance if my question has been asked previously. I couldn't find a related post, so here goes: Is it possible to install a fourth gen rearend into a second gen car? If so, what mods are needed? Please advise. Thanks.

The 4th gens used a 7 1/2 inch rearend that was notorious for not being the strongest in the world. The 2nd gens used the much stronger 8 1/2 inch rear. Plus, you are going from a coil spring rear to leaf spring. The mounting brackets for a coil set up would not be on the 2nd generation, and the leaf spring brackets would not be on the 4th gen. I don't see how they would be interchangeable and don't know of any kits to convert them. Not to mention that the chassis sizes were different.
My first question would be - why would you want to? If it is because you want disc brakes on the rear, some of the 2nd gen Trans Ams came with rear disc brakes and they are still out there. You can also find conversion kits for that, but I don't know about converting the whole rear.

Thanks for your response to my previous post. After doing some additional research, I now realize the stupidity of my question. I would like to upgrade to rear disc brakes and install a 3.42 or 3.55 gear set...I'll plan to do so while keeping my existing rearend. Thanks again
