the below formula is a general tire size conversion formula....

Width x Aspect Ratio = Section Height
Section Height x 2 = Combined Section Height
Combined Section Height + Wheel Diameter = Tire Diameter

Example: 225/60R15

The first number is the width of the tire in millimeters, measured from sidewall to sidewall. To convert to inches, divide by 25.4 In the example above, the width is 225mm or 8.85".

The second number is the aspect ratio. This is a ratio of sidewall height to width. Ie (60,.60 or 60%) In the example above, the tire is 8.85" wide, multiply that by the aspect ratio to find the height of one sidewall. In this case, 225x0.60=135mm or 135mm/25.4=5.3 inches".(top of tire to edge of rim)

The last number is the diameter of the wheel in inches.

225mm / 25.4 = 8.85 wide
225mm x .60= 135mm
135mm x 2=170mm
170mm + (15" wheel x 25.4)= 551mm or 21.7" tall

So the long of it is that the tire is wider than the rim. yes it will proabably fit, most of the tire manufactures spec a rim 6"-8" for a 225.(kumyo.com, goodyear.com)
the new rims are an inch wider, so be Careful of the rims back spacing (distance from the back of wheel flang to edge of rim) That extra inch has to go somewhere, so incorrect backspacing can put the tire inboard to much where it could contact the frame when the front wheels are steered or will rub the inner fender/frame on the back. incorrect backspacing can put the tire too far out and the tire hits the lip of the fender well. If possible, mount them, balance them, put them on the car and drive with them before you lay down the cash. that way you can check it out and see if there are any problems...

a good place for rim info is centerline.com or american racing.com

They sound like a rather low profile to me. If memory serves me correctly, the correct tire for the late 2nd gens was a 225/70/15. That 225/60 is going to have a much lower sidewall/profile and will throw off your speedo. When I went to a different tire I looked in the different catalogs and found that the closest 15" equivalent was the 255/60/15. But, to answer your question, the 225/60/15 should fit on a 8" rim.
