1978 Chevy 305 in a Firebird?

Did the 1978's come with a Chevy 305 engine and what was base horsepower?

Thanks!

Hey man. Unfortunately the Pontiac motor was now on its last legs in 1978. 1979 would be the last year of the true Pontiac motor, the 400. (I don't count the 301, although it was a Pontiac motor, it wasn't much of a motor. In 1978, I have seen numbers for the 305 anywhere from 125 to 150 horsepower.

There were 305 sbc motors in firebirds in '78. There were 2 different 305's that year. Both had 8.4:1 compression and a 2-barrel carb, but one was made for California and high altitudes. The regular motor made 145rwhp@3800rpm and 245rwtq@2500rpm. The California motor made 135rwhp@3800rpm and 240rwtq@2000.
