Shift Kit on a 700R4

Hi, im converting from a 2.8 v6 in my 88 firebird to a newer 3.4 and install a shift kit in the stock trans. However, while installing the kit and small piston got stuck, and i need to pull out the front pump to fix the situation. Any special tools or ideas?

i would suggest posting this question on the 3rd gen listing... while some of us did that transplant i belive better respose will come from the 3rd geners
