tie rod problem Posted By: 80formula403 On: 01-04-2008 @ 03:14:40 Reply | Edit So, I'm thinking about getting a (you guessed it!) 1980 formula with a built 403 (I'm told) in pretty sad shape. I hate the formula front end looks, and would prefer the non-formula look, ala Smokey and the Bandit style, or like a 72ish front end, which I'm not so sure what all is involved in swapping... Anyway, it has a jacked up tie rod and can't turn left... Hahahaha, and this is all from what I'm told, apparently the frame is straight, and its just the tie rod, of course I can't verify that, so just roll with me on this one... Is it much of a job to replace the tie rod? Anyone know how to do it? It would be pretty cool if I could steer, so I'd like to fix it :^). Oh, and PS, IROC2fast4u sent me... Kind of like a chevy truck where you can put the escalade front end on it. So if none of them came with 400s, whats the deal with the Formula 400s I hear about? Is the 400 designation for something else? I looked at the car today, and it really needs some work... The 'tie rod' isn't a tie rod, its some adjustable linkage shaft down there. The car needs a lot of work. The only good thing about it is the engine, and that is hardly a good reason to take this car. The only differences are the hoods and the wheel flares and spoilers on the T/A. Not meaning to hurt your feelings,but you don't seem to be too mechanically inclined.
